Competition Formats

 

Competition Details
4BBB
  • Round played by two teams of 2-players
  • All 4 players play their own ball throughout
  • At the end of each hole the lower score of a pair is their score for that hole
  • Format can be Stroke Play or Stableford
Foursomes
  • Round played by two teams of 2-players
  • Players drive off only on alternate holes
  • Then play alternate shots using the same ball, until the ball is in the hole
Greensomes
  • Round played by two teams of 2-players
  • Both players Drive on every hole
  • Choose the best Drive to play
  • Then play alternate shots using the same ball, until the ball is in the hole
Singles Match Play
  • The aim is to win more holes than your opponent.
  • Before starting you compare your course handicaps to confirm how many shots you receive (or have to give) eg:
    • Player A = 36 handicap
    • Player B = 28 handicap
    • Player A receives 8 shots on stroke index 1-8
  • You can win, lose or half a hole
  • Play on until one player is ahead by more than the holes left to play, eg, 3 up and 2 to play

Doubles Match Play
  • The aim is to win more holes than your opponents.
  • Before starting you need to calculate the Team handicap.  This is the average of both players course handicaps.
    • Player A has a course handicap of 40
    • Player B has a course handicap of 21.
    • The average is 61/2 which rounded up is 31
  • Your team can win, lose or half a hole
  • Play on until one team is ahead by more than the holes left to play, eg, 3 up and 2 to play
Stableford
  • Your handicap determines how many shots you are allowed per hole to score.
    • Example:
      • 36 handicap on a par 4 hole receives 2 extra shots
    • Scoring Example for a par 4 hole
      • 4 shots = 4 points
      • 5 shots = 3 points
      • 6 shots = 2 points
      • 7 shots = 1 point
  • If you are out of shots – pick up

Strokeplay
  • Add up all the shots taken during your round
  • Deduct your handicap
  • This is your nett score
Texas Scramble
  • Usually played in teams of 3 or 4 players
  • Everyone Drives off
  • Choose the best ball and mark it (within 6 inches and no closer to the hole)
  • Everyone then plays from that position
  • The player whose ball is chosen plays first
  • Carry on choosing and marking until a ball is in the hole
  • Count the shots
