Bolton Ladies’ Championship

The annual Bolton Ladies’ Championship, which brings together lady golfers from all the golf clubs across Bolton, took place during week commencing 19th June. This year Westhoughton hosted the event. With qualifying taking place on Sunday, the semi-finals were then held on Thursday and the final on Friday 24th. Harwood’s Clare MacLeod qualified and then won her semi-final against Helen Mosscrop from Turton. She then played Jo Miller, also from Turton, in the final. The final was hard fought and competitive right from the first tee off, with Jo beating Harwood’s Clare on the 17th. Those who were there to watch were treated to some exceptional golf. Clare is pictured above receiving the runner up’s prize from Janet Cartledge, President of the Bolton Ladies’ Championship.

An ancillary competition took place on Tuesday 21st which was well supported with 20 teams entering from the Bolton clubs. Harwood entered two teams in the Texas Scramble competition. Harwood ladies finished 2nd (on a card play off) with a score of 56 and 5th with a score of 62. Well played both teams. The photo below shows Lorna Hart and Susan Selby receiving their second prize from Westhoughton’s Lady Captain, Sandra Churchill, at the presentation on Friday. Their playing partner Wendy Gudger was unable to attend but has since received her prize!
